Knitting…

I am at another conference, for work.  My New Years Resolution was “Travel Less”, which doesn’t seem to have kicked in yet.  So no sewing.

But my yarn came from Jenna (Thanks Jenna!) and I’ve been knitting this hat

I have actually made two versions of this in the past — one in red, with earflaps, for my husband.  No pompoms.  And one in the leftover red yarn, no earflaps or pompoms, for my nephew.  This is the extremely early start of the one for me, with no earflaps or pompoms.

It’s going to be at least one more trip before this is even  close to done.

I have to say that what I like about knitting is that it’s portable, but that’s about it.  It really doesn’t have the instant gratification that sewing does.  When I was knitting more frequently — mostly baby sweaters — I would often return to a project after eight months to find that I had the back done, and half of one sleeve.  I frequently couldn’t figure out what was going on with the pattern, and what I was supposed to do next.  I guess this is more of a problem with procrastination than with knitting per se.  But lugging the sewing machine on the airplane is not an option (although Cidell does do this, which I find very impressive), so knitting it is.

Back tomorrow afternoon, hopefully in time to start putting together the muslin for my coat, which is all cut out.

I have the worst of both worlds – the scarf I am knitting for my mother is not portable because the yarn is so delicate.

Anyway, I am looking forward to seeing how the hat turns out!
